January 15, 2012 AM Worship
A little dusting of snow couldn’t keep the regular members and guests of Vine Street Baptist Church from gathering and worshiping the Lord this Sunday.
The service was opened with a reading of Psalm 66 by Deacon Gary Cook. After a prayer, the Minister of Praise and Worship, Dr. Johann Kim, said that not only is this passage filled with shouts of joy, but has glimpses into our whole life: Worship should be in our whole life. Songs that opened the service were:
- Worthy of Worship
- To God be the Glory
- The Heart of Worship
- Agnus Dei
Dr. Kim welcomed the gathered and encouraged everyone to take part in a time of fellowship. Pastor Ben Dockery closed the fellowship time with a few announcements and led a pastoral prayer
- Shape Note Meeting today from 2:30p – 4:30p in the Fellowship Hall

Today’s scripture reading, Matthew 17:1-9, was presented via a video of Bob Meek to recognize the one-year anniversary of his passing. Dr. Kim gave testimony about the project and how Meek’s legacy continues. (For more information about the video or the whole project, please click here.) After the testimony, Dr. Kim led the gathered in singing “At the Name of Jesus.” Deacon Joe Gross said a prayer prior to the offering being collected. Pianist Mia Kim played “Dying With Jesus” while the plates were passed. Just before the sermon was presented, the choir sang “I Call to You.”
Pastor Ben presented the sermon the third sermon of the series Great Aspects of the Church. The full audio can be heard by clicking on a date link below, or right-click and select “Save As” to save the file to your computer. Click on the scripture reference to follow along with the reading.
