January 27, 2013 AM Worship
Another great crowd gathered for sing songs and worship the Lord, then to hear a message from His Word.
The service opened with Deacon Gary Cook reading Psalm 103:1-4, then saying a prayer. Worship Pastor Chris Wells invited everyone to turn in the Baptist Hymnal to Hymn 216 and sing O for a Thousand Tongues to Sing. A time of welcome of fellowship was held at the end of the song.
Pastor Ben Dockery made a few announcements, then held a pastoral prayer.
- Praise reports on some health concerns
- Souper Sunday returns next Sunday night
- A new baby has arrived, and gifts are still being collected for them
After the pastoral prayer, Pastor Ben invited Deacon Joe Gross to come forward with Justin Yeary. Yeary, a student at Southern Seminary, has been attending Vine Street Baptist Church for the past several months, often filling in as music leader for many worship services. He has received an internship at a church in St. Louis, MO. Yeary leaves this week to take on this new role, and Vine Street Baptist is delighted to have been a part of his training leading up to this. Gross said a prayer of blessing as Yeary gets ready for this new ministry position.
Pastor Ben read Hebrews 10:19-25 before Wells lead the gathered in two additional songs
- Before the Throne of God Above
- Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)
Deacon Ronnie Allen said a prayer over the offering, then Wells sang O Church Arise while the plates were passed. Everyone joined Wells by singing the third and fourth stanzas.
Dr. Philip Bethancourt brought the final message in the “Great God, Great Mission” series. The full audio can be heard by clicking on a date link below, or right-click and select “Save As” to save the file to your computer. Click on the scripture reference to follow along with the reading.

After singing the third verse of I Stand Amazed in the Presence, the Lord’s Supper (Communion) was served. Associate Pastor Todd Burrus read scripture and explained the reason and importance of this special time. Deacons Gary Cook and Donnie Aebersold prayed over the elements. At the conclusion of the Lord’s Supper, the congregation sang the Doxology.
