October 20, 2013 AM Worship

“This is the day the LORD has made.” With these words, spoken by Deacon Wally Jeffries, the morning worship service started. He read Psalm 103:1-14 and said a prayer.

Worship Pastor Chris Wells lead the gathered members and guests in opening songs of worship.

After a time of welcome and fellowship, Pastor Ben Dockery presented several announcements

  • Introduction of guest preacher, Raymond Johnson. Johnson is from the Mobile, AL area and attended the University of Southern Mississippi, earning his degree in Speech Communications. He met his wife, Meghan, while he was in college, and married her after he moved to Louisville in 2007. Johnson is a PhD student in New Testament. In addition, he is a pastoral intern at Ninth & O Baptist Church and an adjunct preaching professor at Boyce College. The Johnson’s have two children.

  • Summary of last week’s Business Meeting and quick review of the proposed 2014 Budget

New member Justin Francis read Hebrews 12:18-24, then the congregation sang more songs before a time of giving tithes and offerings

Deacon Donnie Aerbsold said a prayer for the offering before the choir ensemble sang a special arrangement of Trust and Obey.

October 13, 2013 AM Exodus 19:1-20:21 On the Edge of Darkness: Covenant Presence & Resurrection on the Third Day Raymond Johnson

During a time of response and reflection, the congregation sang Glorious Day (Living He Loved Me), then the service was closed with a benediction reading from scripture.

A long standing tradition of Vine Street Baptist Church is to sing the Happy Birthday song to members and regular attendees when their birthday falls on a Sunday. Before everyone was dismissed, everyone sang the song to Brenda Waters.
